Rosewood Cape Kidnappers

A lodge on a 6,000-acre working sheep and beef farm in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, with Tom Doak's par-71 Cape Kidnappers course 140 metres above the Pacific and a gannet colony nearby.

A gannet colony shares the cape with Rosewood Cape Kidnappers, and the hotel says it is the largest and most accessible on the mainland. The lodge is on a 6,000-acre working sheep and beef farm on a windswept peninsula in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The farm runs the Cape Sanctuary conservation project. Napier Airport is 34 km away, about 45 minutes by car.

Tom Doak’s par-71 Cape Kidnappers course was completed in 2004 and is perched 140 metres above the Pacific. It is on site, with a clubhouse and a wrap-around terrace, a driving range, a putting green and PGA professionals.

The suites start with the Hilltop Junior Suite at 47 m². The Grand Ridge Junior Suite is 63 m² and sleeps three, and the Hawke’s Bay Four Bedroom Villa sleeps up to eight around its own courtyard and jacuzzi. The Dining Room changes its menu daily, using produce from the kitchen garden and the region.

Mānuka honey goes into the spa treatments, and there is an outdoor pool. Off the course, join a shepherding tour with the farm’s Huntaway dogs, take a day or night tour of the sanctuary, visit the gannets or go on a winery tour in Hawke’s Bay. The lodge is one of a trio with Rosewood Kauri Cliffs and Rosewood Matakauri.
