Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is, for the traveller, oceans away from the ordinary. It cradles atoll nations, volcanic archipelagos, and ancient island cultures. It has quietly defined the world's idea of what a tropical escape should feel like.

In the Maldives, the seclusion is so complete it genuinely feels unreal: overwater villas perched above lagoons of implausible turquoise, glass floors revealing a living aquarium below, the ocean stretching beyond your private deck like it belongs to no one else on earth.
