Saman

Las Terrenas boutique hotel built around a samán tree, with nature-led interiors, local craft, Caribbean-influenced dining and slow Samaná ease.

Samán Boutique Hotel takes its name seriously. In Las Terrenas, on the Samaná Peninsula, the small hotel was built around a samán tree, then carried that natural reference into its interiors, storytelling and restaurant.

The hotel runs on a slow philosophy, organic produce and a cultural link to Samaná. Taíno references, saman trees, humpback whales and turtles appear across the walls through paintings, words and poems, while furniture and decorative pieces were made from samán wood felled during Hurricane Irma in 2017, shaped in collaboration with local artisans.

That gives the property a welcome sense of specificity. This is not a generic tropical boutique hotel with a plant in the lobby and a linen shirt doing all the work. Its story is rooted in place, craft and the peninsula’s natural imagination. The restaurant, Albizia, is described as offering a creative menu with Caribbean influences.

Samán is for travellers who like their beach proximity with a little narrative intelligence. Las Terrenas brings sand and ease; the hotel adds texture, local wood, painted walls and a slower rhythm. Scenic route, happily taken.
