A five-star boutique hotel in the City of London, near Moorgate, with Angler's Michelin-starred seafood on the top floor, a hidden garden terrace and a welcome for dogs throughout.

Craig Johnston won MasterChef: The Professionals in 2017 and the Roux Scholarship in 2025. He now runs the kitchen at Angler, the seafood restaurant on the top floor of South Place Hotel. Angler has held its Michelin star for 13 consecutive years, cooking fish and shellfish from fishermen and day boats around the British Isles.

The hotel is at 3 South Place in Moorgate, inside the City of London, with Moorgate, Liverpool Street and Old Street stations all a short walk away. It belongs to The Evolv Collection and calls itself a five-star boutique hotel.

Rooms start with the compact Studio Rooms on the sixth floor, set up with a rainfall shower, a Lavazza machine and a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer. Deluxe Rooms add floor-to-ceiling windows and marble bathrooms with a deep bath and a separate shower.

On the top floor, the One Bedroom Suite has a dining table for eight and a freestanding bath. The three-bedroom Presidential Suite has its own private entrance and works like an apartment inside the hotel.

Angler’s rooftop terrace has heaters and a retractable cover, so it stays in use when the weather turns. Downstairs, Bluebird City serves modern British food from breakfast to late, and the Secret Garden is a planted terrace with a retractable roof that you need to book. The wellness area has a 24-hour gym, a sauna, steam rooms, an ice bath and massage rooms.

Dogs are welcome in every part of the hotel, Angler included, and stay free when you book direct. Blue Badge Style named South Place its Best Luxury Hotel for 2025/26, and the hotel publishes a virtual access gallery to help you plan.
