Stadtbad Spa brings the hammam into Zurich’s urban rhythm: less alpine retreat, more city reset with steam in its bones. Set in the Volkshaus, it offers a ritualised counterpoint to the city’s clean lines and efficient trams.
The hammam is inspired by the traditional Turkish bath, complemented by a small sauna area and spa programme. The sauna follows the classic high-temperature pattern, while the hammam moves more gradually through warming, cleansing and cooling. The full sequence of sauna, steam rooms, hot stones and thermal pools is the heart of the visit.
What makes Stadtbad useful is its lack of fuss. You do not have to leave Zurich, book into a mountain hotel or devote a whole weekend to becoming a better person. You can disappear for a few hours, let the heat do its quiet work, and emerge onto the cobblestones with your internal volume lowered.
