Magic Camps does not have an address so much as a stretch of desert. The camp is mobile, pitched and struck across the dunes of Oman’s Sharqiya Sands (the great sea of sand many still call the Wahiba), which means your stay comes without the permanent footprint a fixed resort leaves behind.
The tents keep the classic Bedouin silhouette, white canvas against red sand, but the comfort inside is firmly contemporary: proper beds, considered interiors, the textures of a good hotel under a roof you could strike camp with by morning. It is a light-footed way to spend a night in one of the most striking landscapes on the Arabian Peninsula.
The days arrange themselves around the desert’s own clock. Wake for the cool of sunrise, when the dunes are at their most sculptural, and choose between a camel ride along the ridgelines and an unhurried yoga session as the light comes up. The heat of the afternoon is for stillness.
Dinner is the set piece. As the sky goes from copper to ink, the camp fills with lanterns and strings of light, and a long table arrives: mezze, skewers, the warm spice of Omani cooking, eaten under a sky with no city for miles to dull the stars.
