St Regis Singapore completes a $44 million transformation

St Regis Singapore has completed its USD$44 million transformation, a project that redrew all 299 guestrooms and every one of its event venues. The redesign was led by FBEYE International under founder and creative director Warren Foster-Brown, a member of the team that first designed the hotel in 2008.

The redesign

The work pays poetic homage to the Singapore Botanic Gardens nearby, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. That garden reference runs through the artwork, furnishings, colour palettes and interior detail, which made the project a personal one for the owning Hong Leong Group family.

Cecilia Kwek, wife of Hong Leong Group executive chairman Kwek Leng Beng, was closely involved in the key conversations around the redesign. Kwek Leng Beng said the hotel has always held a special place in the family's heart and remains one of Singapore's most iconic luxury addresses.

New rooms and dining

The overhaul includes the completion of the 335-square-metre Presidential Suite, the largest accommodation in the property. Alongside it, the hotel has added three entirely new dining venues: Sophia, The Tea Room and The St Regis Bar, each a fresh reason to visit.

Technology and sustainability were worked into the rooms rather than bolted on. Motion sensors bring the blinds and air-conditioning to life only when a guest is present, and an in-room tap dispenses both hot and ambient drinking water, removing single-use plastic bottles from the floor.

The flooring is eco-composite built from up to 50 per cent recycled material, while refillable, residential-sized bathroom amenities replace the disposable packaging the rooms had before. It is a quieter, less visible renovation but one a guest meets at every turn.

Event spaces

The hotel's ten event venues, together more than 14,000 square feet of space, were also refreshed. The John Jacob Ballroom now carries two LED walls, each measuring 9.6 metres by 5.29 metres, large enough to drive a far more immersive presentation than a single screen ever could.

The ballroom foyer gains a new built-in bar, lifting pre-event cocktail receptions out of temporary setups. That pairing of wall and bar turns the ballroom from a rented hall into a production space a planner can build a whole evening around.

Connected and adjacent to the main building is Caroline's Mansion, an exclusive venue for smaller gatherings. It began life as an indoor tennis court and was transformed in 2019 into a mansion inspired by Mrs. Caroline Astor's Upper East Side home.

The mansion carries its own private entryway, foyer and grand staircase, and it can be subdivided into three smaller meeting rooms. That makes it the intimate counterweight to the ballroom, suited to celebrations and corporate gatherings on a smaller scale.

The redesign revisits the image this hotel has held since it opened. St Regis Singapore is one of the brand's Asian flagships, and we cover it in our guide to the best hotels in Singapore, where the property stands among the city's most complete luxury options.

The renovation also places the hotel beside the wider St Regis network we have written about. The Iridium Spa at St. Regis Maldives Vommuli sets its overwater treatment rooms around Ayurvedic and Asian rituals, while the Florentine outpost works with Clarins products.

A third Iridium spa, at St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico, offers three bespoke packages on organic, cruelty-free products across the north coast. Singapore sits in that same stable of addresses, and the new rooms bring it up to the group's present standard.

The timing places the hotel in a wider Singapore renovation cycle we have reported on. Anantara Siam Bangkok completed a $50 million restoration of its 335 rooms, and Four Seasons Hotel Singapore unveiled a 180-square-metre Three-Bedroom Premier Suite, each a peer refreshing for the same traveller.

St Regis Singapore's own transformation matters to the city's room stock because of what it changes for the guest. New dining, quieter technology and a Presidential Suite push the hotel back toward the front of the luxury set we compare in Singapore.

The work leaves the property in a far stronger position for the season ahead. Kwek Leng Beng said seeing the hotel win international recognition following the transformation makes these milestones especially meaningful, and the new design is built to earn more of it.
