Peace n’ Loaf
San Juan vegan and vegetarian pizzeria and bread boutique where plant-based dough, house breads and comfort food take centre stage.
Peace n’ Loaf puts dough first, which is usually a good sign. The San Juan restaurant is Puerto Rico’s first vegetarian pizzeria, with artisan breads and homemade pizzas at the centre of the offer. Vegan is the default, with dairy cheese available as the exception rather than the organising principle.
That small inversion is what makes the place interesting. Instead of treating plant-based diners as the table’s special request, Peace n’ Loaf makes vegan eating feel normal, generous and very much in charge. Pizza, bread and comfort food do not have to be apologetic to be values-aligned.
The best way to read it is as a neighbourhood pizzeria with a kinder operating system. Expect a casual, friendly atmosphere, organic or locally sourced ingredients where possible, and the sort of bread that threatens to become the main event. Puerto Rico has plenty of sunshine; Peace n’ Loaf supplies the crust.
