Pendry Manhattan West

A California-inspired hotel at 438 West 33rd Street in Manhattan West, with 164 rooms and 30 suites by Gachot Studios, a four-minute walk from the High Line and Moynihan Train Hall.

Pendry Manhattan West is at 438 West 33rd Street, by 10th Avenue, on the far west side of Midtown. The hotel calls itself California-inspired, with a signature façade on the street. The High Line, Moynihan Train Hall and Penn Station are each a four-minute walk away.

Gachot Studios designed the 164 rooms and 30 suites in warm, contemporary style. Deluxe City Kings measure 320 square feet with floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms and Fili D’Oro linens; the Skyline rooms are on the upper floors. The one-bedroom Pendry Suite, on the 21st floor, runs to 1,265 square feet with a Steinway piano, a fireplace, a dining table for eight, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with a turntable and a curated record collection, and a Taylor acoustic guitar.

You eat well without leaving the building. Zou Zou’s, from Quality Branded (the group behind Don Angie and Bad Roman), cooks Eastern Mediterranean food around a wood-fired hearth in a 75-seat room designed by AvroKO. Upstairs, Chez Zou mixes banana with bourbon and white rum with dill. Bar Pendry handles the classics, and Vista Lounge on the fourth floor serves breakfast. The 1,700-square-foot fitness centre and Movement Studio, with Technogym equipment and Peloton bikes, is open around the clock, and dogs up to 60 pounds are welcome for a fee.

Book Pendry Manhattan West when your trip runs through Penn Station or the shops and restaurants of Hudson Yards. It trades the Fifth Avenue postcode for space, design and an easy train connection.
