Away Spa at the W in Seminyak is, by its own design, a fun spa, and that is not a register many spas attempt. Colourful cushions sit on swish recliners against a backdrop of neon lights and sparkling decor; the mood is bright and a little playful rather than hushed and reverent.
It works as well for a group as for one. Bring friends for a shared afternoon of pampering, or come alone and settle into the comfort of one of Bali’s coolest hotels. The facilities reward arriving early. A hot-stone bath and a cold jet vitality pool offer a revitalising burst at either end of a treatment: the contrast of heat and chill that the body responds to so readily. Beyond them, a facial room, a hair salon and a mani-pedi lounge cover the rest of the brief.
It is not the spa for a traveller seeking solemn, candlelit calm; Away has other ideas. But for an afternoon that feels more like an event than an errand (colourful, social, unhurried) it is one of Seminyak’s most enjoyable. Come with friends, and give the day over to it.
