Hilton opens Casa Verbena Madrid, its first Outset Collection hotel in Europe
Designer Lorenzo Castillo fills the hotel with costumbrismo art, brass and fluted glass, and Hilton counts more than 100 Outset hotels in development.
Hilton has announced the opening of Casa Verbena Madrid, Outset Collection by Hilton, a 45-room hotel on Calle de Preciados in the heart of the Spanish capital. It is the first Outset Collection hotel in Europe, so Madrid is where the collection makes its continental debut.
The interiors are by Lorenzo Castillo, a Madrid-born designer, and the hotel is complemented by views across the city's rooftops. Many guestrooms look onto Preciados street and its typical Madrid façades, which gives the rooms a view of ordinary city life rather than a monument.
The name comes from the verbena, a traditional Spanish street party built around food, music and shared customs. The hotel also draws on costumbrismo, a Spanish artistic tradition of showing local habits, characters and everyday rituals.
In practice that means setting aside the capital's landmarks and turning to the cafés, streets and squares that shape daily life for Madrileños. The hotel describes its interiors as reflecting a distinctly local perspective on the city.
The materials are specific: costumbrismo-inspired artwork, warm materials, fluted glass, brass finishes and layered textures. Hilton says they reference Madrid's architectural and cultural heritage in a contemporary way, which is a brief that suits a designer born in the city.
Preciados Rooms are the ones with terraces, and those terraces face the rooftops and the direction of the Royal Palace. The other guestrooms face the street, so the choice inside the 45 rooms is between the Madrid façades and the wider skyline.
"Casa Verbena Madrid offers a fresh perspective on the capital, whether guests are discovering it for the first time or returning to experience it differently," said Álvaro Mazaheri, managing director of Arte Hoteles.
Mazaheri added that each stay is meant to reveal more of the Madrid beyond its best-known sights. He pointed to a breakfast inspired by local favourites and to recommendations the team would share with friends.
What Outset Collection is
Elizabeth Scruggs, brand leader for Outset Collection by Hilton, said Casa Verbena Madrid represents the essence of the collection, offering a stay that feels deeply connected to the destination. She called it the hotel that sets the tone for the collection's growth around the world.
Scruggs described that growth as coming through independent hotels with compelling stories, strong local identities and a genuine sense of discovery. More than 100 hotels are under development globally, each one individual, and all of them carry the benefits of Hilton.
David Kelly, senior vice president for Continental Europe at Hilton, said Madrid is a special destination for the group. In recent years, he said, Hilton has broadened its presence in the city with distinctive brands and properties designed to meet different traveller needs.
Kelly called Casa Verbena Madrid the European debut of Outset Collection by Hilton, full of character and with a strong sense of place. He said the hotel reflects the creativity and energy of Madrid and joins a growing portfolio of collection properties across Europe.
Hilton's range at the other end
Hilton's portfolio runs far larger than 45 rooms. Our guide to the Caribe Hilton covers a San Juan beachfront resort with 17 tropical acres, nine dining venues, a secluded beach, a spa and oceanfront pools, a long way from a single Madrid street.
The Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers, which we also cover, is a 377-room Hilton-group landmark with private Corniche beach access and an Observation Deck at 300 that reads the skyline from 74 floors up. Casa Verbena works at a deliberately smaller scale.
Our Wave Garden Spa at Hilton, Snowdonia, entry describes a spa beside Adventure Parc pairing hammam heat and hydrotherapy with mountain views and Tribe517 treatments. Those are Hilton's resort and spa credentials; Casa Verbena adds an independent-minded city address.
