Fairmont New Orleans opens bookings from 2 November in a 1970 bank tower

Emeril Lagasse is running the restaurants and bars, and Rockwell Group designed the interiors, inside 17 floors of a Skidmore, Owings & Merrill tower.

Fairmont New Orleans opens bookings from 2 November in a 1970 bank tower

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has opened reservations from 2 November for Fairmont New Orleans, its newest American property and the brand's 19th in the USA. The Accor luxury brand returns to the Crescent City after two decades, with the project developed by Kailas Companies.

The hotel is in the Central Business District, just steps from the French Quarter and Caesars Superdome. It takes 17 stories of the former Bank of New Orleans building, a 31-story landmark designed in 1970 by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The reimagined property has 250 guest rooms and suites. Fairmont describes the result as boutique intimacy with high comfort: a small key count, generously sized rooms and a more private, spacious guest experience than a large city hotel usually offers.

Dining and drinking are built around a partnership with Chef Emeril Lagasse and his team, who are behind multiple restaurant and bar venues. Fairmont gives no venue names or opening dates for the restaurants beyond the rooftop bars.

On the roof, a pool and lounge are billed as the highest in the city, with views of the Mississippi. Beside them are Third Measure, an intimate rooftop bar, and Bleu Perdu, a rooftop poolside lounge.

Spa, Gold floors and event space

The spa is 10,000 square feet, with vistas over the city. It has three treatment rooms and a couples suite with dry sauna and steam room, plus a fitness studio, and Fairmont Gold gives the hotel an exclusive hotel-within-a-hotel experience.

Meetings and events have over 19,000 square feet. The hotel can host weddings, meetings and gatherings from 10 to 500 guests, across two 4,000-square-foot ballrooms with dedicated foyer space on the second floor, six meeting rooms and an executive boardroom.

The grand ballroom is housed within the former bank interiors and keeps the building's heritage ceiling of local cypress wood. Italian-inspired chandeliers from the 1970s add warmth, and Fairmont pitches the room for society balls, galas, weddings and milestone celebrations.

The double-height ballroom is lit to glow like a lantern from the street, guiding guests towards the hotel. Meeting rooms and boardrooms are flooded with natural light and use Spanish moss-inspired wallcoverings, warm walnut wood and rich velvet upholstery.

How Rockwell Group designed the interiors

Interior design by Rockwell Group is guided by a celebration of the tension between built and natural environments, which the brand calls a defining characteristic of New Orleans. Structured architectural lines are softened by layered textures, saturated colour and organic references to the city's landscape.

Fairmont says the hotel mixes old and new, polished and playful, vibrant and restful. Fairmont says the spaces feel both intentional and instinctive, and calls the hotel the next expression of its evolving design vision.

The lobby is conceived as the hotel's social anchor rather than a pass-through arrival hall. A central Lobby Bar pours hand-crafted cocktails and is meant as a gathering place for guests and locals, echoing the city's daily rhythm.

Rich materiality, bold colour and curated furnishings make the lobby feel layered and lived-in, Fairmont says, blurring the lines between reception, lounge and cultural living room. The brand adds that its properties are social epicentres, with lively lobbies synonymous with celebration.

The brand's range is wide. Our profile of Fairmont Chateau, Whistler covers an alpine grande dame at the base of Blackcomb Mountain with ski-in/ski-out access and championship golf, a very different setting from a rebuilt bank tower on the Mississippi.

Wellness is another thread. We have written up the Well & Being Spa at Fairmont El San Juan, with rooftop fitness and yoga, and the Arufen Spa at Sirru Fen Fushi, which pairs Maldivian gardens with body and mind rituals.

Fairmont positions the hotel as a refined retreat and a dynamic cultural gathering place. Reservations are live from 2 November, ahead of the opening, though the announcement gives no opening date or room rates.
