Tivoli Avenida Liberdade unveils remodelled rooms and suites in Lisbon

Rodrigo Izquierdo Studio designed the interiors, and a wine store by Cellar 47 has opened on the ninth floor.

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade unveils remodelled rooms and suites in Lisbon

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, the Lisbon hotel that has operated since 1933, has unveiled its remodelled rooms and suites. Rodrigo Izquierdo Studio developed the intervention, which reinterprets the property's legacy through Portuguese craftsmanship, noble materials and understated residential comfort.

The designers took their cue from the hotel's architectural identity, including the modernist influence introduced by the Portuguese architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro in 1955. Solid wood, natural stone, brass and iron run through the rooms, suites and corridors, alongside curated artworks and bespoke furnishings.

The interiors are defined by a bespoke palette called "Lisbon Flair". Soft blues evoke traditional tiles, gentle greens are inspired by the tree-lined Avenida da Liberdade, and warm terracotta tones recall the city's rooftops. The hotel describes the result as elegant, intimate and distinctly connected to Lisbon.

The suites are the heart of the transformation. They are conceived as a series of urban residences, with personalised service, refined amenities and a strong sense of place. The hotel does not state how many suites or rooms were remodelled, nor what the work cost.

The standard rooms follow the same design approach. The hotel calls them elegant private retreats with a renewed sense of comfort, so that the reimagined guest experience is felt in both accommodation categories rather than only at the top of the range.

Heritage details inside the rooms

A contemporary textile artwork reinterprets Sintra, the celebrated tapestry Mily Possoz created for the Portalegre Tapestry Manufacture. Carpets take their patterns from the geometries of the hotel's façade, and gold medallions recall the original key fobs of the 1930s.

Felipa Almeida curated the decorative objects and ceramics, and works by Portuguese artists add a local, artistic character. The hotel says these references reinforce its long relationship with Portuguese art and culture, placing past and present in conversation.

Bathrooms carry amenities from the Portuguese brand Claus Porto in the Citron Verbena fragrance. The hotel chose it to evoke the energy and freshness of a Lisbon morning, adding a sensory layer to the stay.

The restaurant and wine store

Cervejaria Liberdade, one of the hotel's signature dining venues, has also been renovated. It keeps its historic grandeur but now has a more contemporary, sophisticated look, with soaring ceilings and large windows overlooking the Avenida da Liberdade.

Chef Miguel Silva leads the kitchen, which draws on seasonal ingredients from sea and land and follows the traditions of a classic Lisbon cervejaria. The menu features fish and seafood sourced from the Portuguese coast, with a fresh perspective on timeless recipes.

The 1933 Wine & Spirits Collection by Cellar 47 recently opened on the ninth floor. The hotel describes a premium, immersive concept stocked with rare wines, special vintages and fine spirits, overseen by the award-winning sommelier Jorge Silva.

Through the Cellar 47 partnership, guests can find international bottles beside Portuguese producers. The store also offers personalised recommendations, private tastings, masterclasses and bespoke wine experiences arranged around the collection.

The flagship of the Tivoli brand

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade is the flagship of the Tivoli brand, and its story began here 93 years ago. The hotel has welcomed Maria Callas, Charles Aznavour, Neil Armstrong and Mario Vargas Llosa, and describes itself as Lisbon's benchmark for luxury hospitality.

The hotel describes the work as authentic, refined and deeply connected to Lisbon. No reopening date or room rates were given in the announcement.

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts runs 22 properties worldwide: eight in Portugal, from north to south, four in Italy and four in the Middle East. Its latest additions are Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia in Portugal, Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce in Italy and Tivoli La Vie Muscat in Oman.
