Nungwi Dreams by Mantis sits on Zanzibar’s northern coast with the Indian Ocean doing exactly what one hopes it will. The ocean-facing resort blends avant-garde architecture with Swahili influences, private terraces, pools, restaurants, spa and gym facilities.
It is a compact property of 56 rooms and one villa, with rooms looking towards tropical gardens, the resort pool or the Indian Ocean. There are two infinity pools, sea-view dining, a rooftop Sky Bar, poolside outdoor dining and a spa open to both hotel guests and day visitors.
The design note matters. Nungwi can easily tip into beach-resort sameness, but the Swahili references and clean-lined architecture give this address a little more identity than the standard white-sand script.
Dining leans into Zanzibari dishes, international plates, island spices and daily specials. That makes the restaurant useful for relaxed resort nights, though strict plant-forward travellers should check current menus before assuming depth beyond the usual vegetable-friendly options.
Nungwi Dreams is not the most secluded stay on the island, nor is it trying to be. Its appeal is easier: ocean views, infinity-pool afternoons, a spa appointment when the sun gets too assertive, and enough polish to make the north coast feel like a proper pause.
