Riffelalp Resort

A ski-in, ski-out Zermatt resort at 2,222 metres, with Matterhorn views, Alpine dining, family ease, and a high-altitude spa.

Riffelalp Resort sits at 2,222 metres, which sounds like marketing until you arrive and realise the altitude is the whole mood. Above Zermatt, in the skiing and hiking area at the foot of the Matterhorn, the hotel is less a mountain base than a small, polished world of its own.

The resort’s own materials describe a five-star hideaway shaped by peace, nature and warm hospitality. In winter, that translates into proper ski-in, ski-out convenience. In summer, it means high Alpine walks, sun terraces and the kind of silence that makes even lunch feel restorative.

Families are well looked after without the place becoming child-led. Apartments add space and privacy; restaurants lean into Swiss and Italian Alpine cooking; and Spa 2222m brings the persuasive argument for doing less, with saunas, saline baths and mountain-facing pools. Switzerland Tourism notes the outdoor pool as one of the highest of its kind in Europe, which is a neatly dramatic way to warm up after cold air and clean slopes.

Riffelalp’s pleasure is that it does not try to outshine the Matterhorn. It frames it. The rooms, terraces and wellness spaces keep returning your eye to the mountain, while the service keeps the logistics soft. For a Swiss stay with altitude, snow, and a little grown-up hush, this is a rather compelling perch.
