Sinner

Theatrical five-star Marais hotel by Evok, with sultry Tristan Auer interiors, restaurant, cocktail bar, crypt mood, and spa.

Sinner is Paris in a black robe and a knowing smile. Opened by Evok in the Marais, the five-star hotel rejects the pale-palace script and instead leans into candlelight, ecclesiastical mischief, and the slightly wicked pleasure of staying somewhere with a point of view.

Designer Tristan Auer’s interiors are the headline: red lanterns, stained-glass tones, confessional references, and corridors that feel more like a private club than a polite hotel passage. It is a cheeky spin on medieval Catholicism, though the rooms themselves are fresher and softer than the public spaces suggest. That contrast matters. You get the theatre downstairs, then somewhere calm enough to sleep.

The Marais location gives Sinner its natural audience: travellers who want galleries, boutiques, bars, falafel queues, and fashion-world people-watching within easy reach. The hotel adds a restaurant, cocktail bar, and spa with hammam and pool elements, making it a full evening proposition rather than just a bed with a costume budget.

It is not the address for travellers seeking classic Parisian restraint, and families may find the mood rather adult. But for a romantic weekend, a design-led city break, or anyone bored by beige luxury, Sinner is deliciously specific. Paris has plenty of angels. This one gets better lighting.
