The River Club

An Edwardian-style Zambezi lodge upstream from Victoria Falls, with river-facing suites, gardens, croquet and sunset cruises.

The River Club sits on the Zambian side of the Zambezi, about 18 kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls, and understands that a river view is best enjoyed slowly. Its restored Edwardian character gives the lodge a slightly theatrical elegance: verandas, lawns, croquet, books, tennis and the civilised hush of sundowners moving across the water.

Expect elevated rooms with private balconies, French and English culinary influence, sunset cruises and natural trails for walking or running. There are 11 rooms or suites, all west-facing towards the Zambezi, with options including River Suites, Luxury River Suites with plunge pools, a family suite and the two-level Princess Mary Suite. The grounds span around 50 acres, with Victoria Falls tours, Zambezi cruises, fishing, spa treatments, tennis, croquet and nature trails among the activities.

This is a lodge for travellers who want Livingstone without surrendering to the checklist. Yes, the Falls are nearby and non-negotiable. But The River Club’s deeper charm is the in-between time: birdsong, river light, a book on the deck and the slow realisation that the Zambezi does not need much editorial assistance.
