Bvlgari Hotel Roma
Bvlgari's Rome hotel, in a 1930s rationalist building facing the Mausoleum of Augustus, with 106 rooms and suites, a Niko Romito restaurant and a 1,500 m² spa with a 20-metre pool.
A Latin bas-relief on the south facade reads, in translation, “Here the spirit of the Emperor Augustus flies through the air”. Bvlgari Hotel Roma faces his Mausoleum across Piazza Augusto Imperatore, in the Campo Marzio area. The architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo designed its rationalist building. It went up between 1936 and 1938 and covers some 14,000 square metres over seven floors.
Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel designed the interiors with hand-crafted marble mosaic roundels, Murano glass lights, walls of blown Venetian crown glass and original 1930s Ginori vases by Gio Ponti. In the ground-floor library, books on Rome are kept on shelves that Albini designed for Cassina in 1956.
There are 106 rooms and suites, starting at 33 sq m. Junior suites look onto the piazza or Via della Frezza. The Bvlgari Suite, on the third floor, runs to more than 300 sq m and takes in the Mausoleum through ten tall windows.
On the fifth floor, Il Ristorante is a concept by chef Niko Romito, whose own restaurant Reale earned three Michelin stars, with Gabriele Gervasi as resident head chef. It seats 54 and has a terrace over the Mausoleum. Up on the roof, La Terrazza looks from Villa Medici and Trinità dei Monti to the Tiber and the Janiculum Hill. The Bvlgari Bar sets 110 Murano glass twirls by Barovier&Toso into a black marble counter, and Il Caffè opens under the porticoes of the piazza.
Eight columns in ribbed arabesque marble rise from the water of the indoor pool. It runs 20 metres and is lined with Bisazza mosaics. The Bvlgari Spa around it covers 1,500 square metres and evokes the atmosphere of ancient Roman baths. There are eight treatment rooms, a spa suite with a green onyx bath, Augustinus Bader treatments and a Technogym gym.
