Six Senses Rome

A 96-room hotel in a 15th-century palazzo on Piazza di San Marcello, designed by Patricia Urquiola, with a Roman bathing circuit, a rooftop restaurant and LEED Gold certification.

Six Senses Rome lines its rooms in Italian travertine and cocciopesto, the lime plaster of ancient Rome. Patricia Urquiola designed the interiors around both. Federica Sala was the art adviser, and nearly every work was made for the hotel, from T-Yong Chung’s diptychs in the rooms to an installation by Mandalaki Studio in the spa solarium. The hotel won three awards at the 2023 Hospitality Design awards, including Best in Show.

The building is Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, a 15th-century palazzo adapted in the 18th century by Antonio Tommaso De Marchis, and a protected building in Rome’s UNESCO-listed historic centre. It stands on Piazza di San Marcello, along Via del Corso, a short walk from the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

There are 96 rooms and suites, some with private terraces and courtyard or city views, and Deluxe rooms start at 34 sq m. The Terrace Junior Suite measures 100 sq m with a leafy terrace. The Corner Suite overlooks the piazza and the church next door, and the largest, the two-bedroom Lata Suite, runs to 222 sq m.

BIVIUM fills the ground floor around the inner courtyard as a restaurant, café and bar, with a Josper grill and a marble bar of Verde Alpi. From April to November, NOTOS takes over the roof, with a restaurant among planters of herbs and a bar for aperitivo. Executive chef Fabio Sangiovanni has led the kitchens since April 2025.

The spa runs a Roman bathing circuit through a caldarium, tepidarium and frigidarium, with a hammam, sauna, steam rooms, five treatment rooms and a yoga studio. The fitness centre is open around the clock. The building was awarded LEED Gold in 2024 and runs on 100 percent renewable electricity.
