L'Hôtel du Collectionneur Paris
An Art Deco five-star near the Arc de Triomphe, inspired by Ruhlmann's 1925 pavilion and the 1930s ocean liners, with an 800 m² garden, Eiffel Tower suites and a 450 m² spa with an 18-metre pool.
Ocean liners stopped crossing the Atlantic in style a long time ago. L’Hôtel du Collectionneur Paris never got the memo. Its design takes after the transatlantic liners of the 1930s and, in particular, the “Hôtel du Collectionneur” pavilion that Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann showed at the 1925 Exhibition.
The building at 51-57 rue de Courcelles is classified among the historic buildings of Paris, and it once housed the headquarters of the fashion designer Pierre Cardin. The Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées are a few minutes away, and Parc Monceau is close enough for a morning walk.
The hotel’s own green space is no small thing either: an 800 m² open-air garden in the middle of the 8th arrondissement. The garden-view rooms look straight onto it.
Rooms start large and keep going. The 30 m² Prestige rooms have alabaster headboards and bathrooms in white Carrara marble and alabaster, and the Prestige King Eiffel rooms add a balcony facing the tower. Classic Suites of about 45 m² and Deluxe Suites of about 55 m² feel like Parisian apartments, some with a marble fireplace. The hotel says its rooms are among the largest in Paris, sleeping up to four guests.
Three 90 m² Signature Suites have four-poster beds and a hot tub in a brass-inlaid marble bathroom. Above them sit three 160 m² suites. The Eiffel Suite has a 30 m² terrace facing the tower, the Monceau Suite a 60 m² terrace over the garden, and the Triomphe Suite a living and dining room built for private dinners. The Eiffel and Monceau suites each have a mosaic steam room inlaid with mother-of-pearl and gold leaf, and a jacuzzi. Bringing the whole family? There is also a 420 m² private apartment over three floors, with five bedrooms.
Downstairs, the Collectionneur restaurant serves modern French cooking built on seasonal produce, in a room full of natural light. Behind it, the 60-seat Patio hides between green walls. The bar is a granite counter more than seven metres long, and in summer Le Jardin Tropézien brings a pop-up terrace with Château Minuty of Saint-Tropez.
The spa is the reason to book. It covers nearly 450 m², and the centrepiece is an 18-metre Art Deco pool under high, mirrored ceilings. Around it are four treatment rooms, including one for couples, a sauna, a steam room and a gym. The treatments are by Cellcosmet, the Swiss cellular skincare brand. The hotel says the spa is Cellcosmet’s exclusive Paris address. If spas are what bring you to the city, our guide to the best spas in Paris has more.
One thing to know before you book: this is also a major events venue, with 1,800 m² of meeting space for up to 650 people. Ask for a room over the garden and you will rarely notice. The Collectionneur is part of The Gate Collection, alongside Les Jardins du Marais in Paris.
It joins our list of the best luxury hotels in Paris as the pick for anyone who likes their Art Deco with a swimming pool attached.
