Can Ferrereta
A five-star townhouse hotel of 32 rooms and suites in a 17th-century mansion in the centre of Santanyí, in south-east Mallorca, with a family art collection and an indoor spa pool.
The outdoor pool at Can Ferrereta is a dark green, like the reservoirs on Mallorcan farms, with cypresses and olive trees around it. The five-star hotel fills a 17th-century mansion in the historic centre of Santanyí, a town in south-east Mallorca founded in 1300 by Jaime II. The Bonet family once owned the house. It now spreads across three restored buildings in the local Santanyí stone, and the vaults, arches, wooden beams and stone ceilings are original.
A Norfolk pine rises over the inner courtyard, next to the walls the town built against pirate attacks. The Soldevila Ferrer family restored the house and chose its art, including works by Jaume Plensa, Joan Miró, Guillem Nadal and Jordi Alcaraz. There is a library of Assouline books and vinyl. Can Ferrereta belongs to the Prelude Collection with Sant Francesc in Palma.
Of the 32 rooms and suites, 13 are rooms and 19 are suites. The Nest rooms are 27 m². The Duplex Suite has ceilings of up to 6 metres and a freestanding round bath, and the Can Ferrereta Suite is in the 17th-century building, with a gallery and French balconies. The Pool Suite adds a 70 m² private garden and a heated plunge pool of 4 by 2 metres.
Ocre, the restaurant and bar, is in a former wine cellar under stone arches, and one of them carries a 17th-century graffito. Chefs Àlvar Albaladejo and Tamara Lumbreras cook dinner there, and on Saturdays a market menu runs at lunch. La Fresca, the garden restaurant and pool bar, is for hotel guests.
The Sa Calma Spa has a 10-metre heated indoor pool with hydromassage, a sauna, a hammam and three treatment rooms. Its treatments use Es Trenc salt and olive and almond oils. Step outside and the Plaza Mayor is a few metres away, with a market every Wednesday and Saturday. Es Trenc beach and the Mondragó natural park are close by.
