Castell Son Claret

A five-star castle hotel on a 132-hectare estate at the foot of the Tramuntana near Es Capdellà, with 43 rooms and the Michelin-starred Sa Clastra.

A 200-metre avenue of palms leads up to Castell Son Claret, a 19th-century castle on a privately owned estate of 132 hectares near Es Capdellà, at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains. Records of the Son Claret estate go back to 1450. In the Middle Ages, estates like it, the possessions, were self-sufficient rural hubs where up to 80 locals kept sheep and grew crops.

The castle became a hotel in 2013, and it is a five-star Grand Luxe member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The land still works. An organic vegetable garden, citrus trees and the estate’s own olive oil supply Olivera’s kitchen and the spa’s treatments.

The 43 rooms and suites are split between the castle and the gardens. The Tower Suites occupy the private quarters of the noble Castell family, inside the original towers. The Water Tower Duplex is a round tower in the middle of the gardens, with a spiral stair up to the bedroom. Pool Suites have a 10 m² private pool, and the Castell Suite is the largest, with its own entrance.

Sa Clastra is the Michelin-starred restaurant. Its Mallorcan chef, Jordi Cantó, builds his menu, Wind and Memory, around the winds of Mallorca. It opens from March to October on a schedule that changes by month, for guests aged 14 and over. Olivera cooks Mediterranean food from the garden through the day, with a children’s menu, and the Castell Bar mixes cocktails with garden ingredients.

The Bellesa de Claret Spa also takes guests aged 14 and over. For the sea, the concierge books sunbeds at the partner Gran Folies Beach Club on Cala Llamp, Port d’Andratx, with 48 hours’ notice. Palma and the airport are about 30 minutes by car. The hotel opens seasonally, so check the dates before you plan.
