Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona
A five-star Gran Lujo hotel on Passeig de Gràcia since 1918, with an art collection of more than 1,000 works, a rooftop facing the Sagrada Família and a 470 m² Royal Penthouse.
Antonio Machado, García Lorca, Joan Miró, Picasso, Josephine Baker and Hemingway are all in the Majestic’s guest book. During the Civil War the hotel was a meeting place for international correspondents. It opened on Passeig de Gràcia in 1918 as the Majestic Hotel Inglaterra, and the Soldevila-Casals family still owns it.
The hotel calls itself a hotel of the arts, and it has the collection to back that up. It owns more than 1,000 works, and Tàpies, Chillida, Antonio Saura, Jaume Plensa, Anish Kapoor and Richard Long are among the artists on display.
Rooms start with the Deluxe, 20 to 25 m² and facing the courtyard or Calle Valencia, and the Privilege, 30 to 35 m², some with a terrace. The Majestic Suite takes a corner of the neoclassical facade and looks along Passeig de Gràcia to Casa Batlló. Then comes the Royal Penthouse: 470 m², two bedrooms, a butler, a chauffeur, and the Sagrada Família in view from its terraces. The hotel calls it the largest suite in Barcelona.
At SOLC, a Michelin Guide Selected restaurant, chef David Romero cooks vegetables from the restaurant’s own farm in the Maresme and fish from the Barcelona market, and serves a Sunday brunch. The rooftop, La Dolce Vitae, looks across to the Sagrada Família and has an open-air, unheated plunge pool for guests. A pianist plays in El Bar del Majestic several evenings a week. The spa has a 12-metre heated pool, a hydromassage pool, a sauna and a steam bath, with an hour’s free access each day for guests, plus a Rossano Ferretti HairSpa and a 24-hour gym.
