Monument Hotel
A five-star Gran Lujo hotel in an 1890s neo-Gothic mansion on Passeig de Gràcia, with 84 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool and Martín Berasategui's three-Michelin-star Lasarte.
Brick, stone, ceramic and wrought iron all share the facade of Casa Enric Batlló. The architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas built this neo-Gothic mansion in 1895 and 1896 for the industrialist Enric Batlló, and it is now Monument Hotel. Oscar Tusquets drew up the renovation with Carles Bassó and Tote Moreno, and Mercè Borrell designed the interiors. The lobby is cream and gold, with marble floors and columns.
There are 84 rooms and suites. Deluxe rooms run from 25 to 30 m². At the other end, the 130 m² Penthouse Suite takes the top floor, with two bedrooms, a dining room for six, an open kitchen and five balconies facing Passeig de Gràcia and La Pedrera. The 85 m² Suite Enric Batlló has a hot tub and its own kitchen. To see the house style in one room, look at the Suite Monument: brick walls, oak floors, a Victoria & Albert bath, Diptyque products and a Coco-Mat pillow menu.
Lasarte opened in 2006. It became the first restaurant in Barcelona with three Michelin stars and has held them since 2017. Martín Berasategui directs it, and head chef Paolo Casagrande cooks between Catalonia, the Basque Country and Italy. Lunch and dinner run from Wednesday to Saturday only. Any day of the week, BERA por Martín Berasategui serves shared dishes and cocktails, and Glasss, the glazed breakfast room, is on the sixth floor.
That sixth floor also holds the Verbena Terrace bar and a white mosaic pool, 20.5 metres long, over Passeig de Gràcia with La Pedrera in view. There is a Wellness Studio for Mediterranean rituals and Kobido facials, and a 24-hour gym. Casa Batlló is five minutes away on foot, and the Sagrada Família is fifteen.
