Aman New York adds four private Homes with pools, butlers and a 6,300 sq ft residence

Aman New York has added a new tier of accommodation above its existing 83 suites: a collection of four private residences called Homes. Two come with their own private pools, and all four are pitched at travellers moving with extended family, staff or an entourage, whether for a few nights or several weeks.

The largest is a full-floor residence spanning 6,300 sq ft, with three bedrooms, an open-plan living and dining area, a dedicated office and its own entertainment room. Staff quarters are included, along with a private butler and a kitchen stocked with matching Le Creuset cookware for guests who choose to cook.

Details run to fireplaces in the living room, the primary bedroom and the bathroom, and parquet floors inlaid with brass. Fresh ikebana arrangements are brought in regularly, and door surrounds are perfumed with cinnamon-scented wood, a touch meant to leave a faint trail of scent between rooms.

Space of this scale is unusual for New York's hospitality market. The living room has two separate sitting areas, the walk-in closet has an additional closet of its own, and the private office has its own en-suite bathroom.

The views take in Central Park, the green mansard roof of the Plaza Hotel and, closer at hand, Louis Vuitton's trunk-shaped scaffolding across the street. The Homes sit inside the Crown Building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, in the middle of Manhattan's most concentrated shopping district.

What is around the property

Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany & Co, Gucci and Louis Vuitton all face the hotel from across the street, and Bulgari and Prada occupy the floors below. Central Park is a two-block walk north, and Aman's private car reaches Lincoln Center, the Met, the Guggenheim and the Frick without a subway journey.

Aman New York opened in 2022 inside the upper storeys of the landmarked Crown Building, a tower whose gilded summit is reportedly coated in 30 gallons of liquid gold. The building once housed the original Museum of Modern Art, which moved out in 1932, decades before Aman took the upper floors.

Interiors throughout the hotel and its new Homes were designed by Jean-Michel Gathy and his Kuala Lumpur firm Denniston, longtime collaborators with the brand. Denniston described the brief as bringing Aman's stillness into one of the world's most relentless cities, working in a warm, Japanese-influenced minimalism of timber, grasscloth and raw stone.

Dining at the property is restricted to hotel guests, residents and members of Aman's private club, a policy that keeps its restaurants notably exclusive for Midtown. Akari, on the 14th floor, serves Japanese cuisine from chef Takuma Yonemaru under a ceiling inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, with seafood flown in from Japan.

Arva is the hotel's Italian restaurant, offering veal Milanese and spaghetti alla carbonara alongside a weekend brunch on its terrace. Guests who prefer not to leave a Home at all can also book a private in-home chef experience, an option the hotel positions as an extension of its butler service.

What the wellness floors include

Three floors and 25,000 sq ft of the property are given over to fitness, longevity and relaxation, including a fitness centre with Technogym equipment, a yoga and pilates studio and a cryotherapy chamber. Private classes range from yoga to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, alongside custom fitness assessments.

Wellness journeys have reportedly been curated with input from Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic. The second floor holds a 65ft lap pool with a fire pit, a banya and a hammam, each with its own terrace and cold plunge, all separate from the private pools inside two of the new Homes.

The hotel's 120-minute signature spa journey opens with a fluorite crystal and continues through massage, singing bowls and an Aman x 111Skin hydrogel mask. Aman's other American outpost, Amangiri in Canyon Point, Utah, carries a similar reputation in the desert.

Aman has not said whether further Homes are planned beyond the current four, nor released nightly or seasonal rates for the collection.
