Accor's Emblems Collection debuts in North America at Rimrock Banff
The Bathhouse brings Banff's first luxury hydrothermal wellness experience, and the owner, Oxford Properties, says it will keep investing in its national park hotels.
Rimrock Banff has been rebranded as the first North American address in Accor's Emblems Collection, a curated portfolio of character-rich hotels. The long-established Canadian Rockies landmark has reopened after an extensive redesign that reconnects it with its mountain setting inside Banff National Park.
The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the resort is surrounded by over 2,500 square miles of protected wilderness. The building is set into the mountainside high above the town of Banff, and its terraces step down towards the Bow Valley.
The original architectural structure has been kept, but the property has been redesigned to reflect the Emblems philosophy of intimate hospitality. Expansive windows, natural materials and carefully framed sightlines connect guests to the landscape beyond, in what is meant to feel more residential than grand.
Rooms, suites and the terrace with a sauna
Rimrock Banff has 320 guestrooms, including 57 suites, all designed around the surrounding views. Beds, seating and dedicated spaces are positioned to keep the Canadian Rockies at the heart of every stay, with warm wood tones, natural stone and tactile textiles drawing on the region.
The most exceptional accommodation is the Infinity Two-Bedroom Suite. It opens onto a wraparound terrace of more than 1,260ft², with a barrel sauna, a fire table and panoramic views across Banff National Park. A private sauna outdoors is one way to meet a Rockies winter.
Wellness Studio suites extend the focus on restoration. They offer movement and recovery amenities, wellness minibars and sleep-focused touches, plus access to the resort's Expeditions gear-lending programme.
What the Bathhouse and Active Centre offer
Wellness is central to the stay, and the 9,600ft² Bathhouse is the centrepiece. It introduces what the resort calls Banff's first luxury hydrothermal wellness experience, with indoor and outdoor thermal environments built around the mountain views.
The facilities include vitality and hot pools, a mountain-facing infinity pool, a salt sauna, an aromatic steam room and glacial cold plunges. Few spa menus pair a steam room with a plunge fed by glacial cold, and here the two are meant to be used in sequence.
For quieter moments there is a suspended meditation room and the Aurora sensory room, both inspired by the natural rhythms of the Canadian Rockies. These are the more contemplative end of the wellness programme, set apart from the pools.
Next to the Bathhouse, a 3,800ft² Active Centre has Technogym and Peloton equipment, climbing and bouldering walls, guided movement classes and recovery-focused offerings. Together the two spaces give the resort a wellness footprint of about 13,400ft² by the source figures.
What the brand and the owner said
Maud Bailly, CEO of Emblems Collection, calls Rimrock Banff "a wonderful expression of the Emblems philosophy: an established property with a character of its own, deeply connected to its destination and reimagined through thoughtful design and highly personal service."
Bailly adds that the setting and the resort's longstanding relationship with the Canadian Rockies make it a natural first North American address for the Collection. She describes the opening as an important milestone in its international development, bringing its art of living to a new continent.
Tyler Seaman, Executive Vice President Head of Canada at Oxford Properties, says the transformation reflects a commitment to invest in Canada and stewardship of exceptional and irreplaceable hotels. He notes that these landmark hotels operate within Canada's National Parks, which brings a unique privilege and responsibility.
Oxford Properties says it is focused on investing thoughtfully and sustainably so the properties preserve their legacy for future generations. Seaman calls the completed transformation an exciting new chapter and says Oxford is thrilled to partner with Accor to bring Emblems Collection to North America for the first time.
Neither partner has published room rates for the reinvented resort, and the announcement gives no cost for the redesign. The facts stated are the room count, the size of the wellness spaces and the first-of-its-kind claim for Banff's hydrothermal facilities.
