Olive and lemon trees frame the outdoor pool at Palazzo Dama, reserved for hotel guests. The garden is the hotel’s signature, behind a Liberty villa on the Lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia, beside the Tiber and a stone’s throw from Piazza del Popolo.

The noble Malaspina family once lived here and received diplomats, aristocrats and the cultural elite. The name pays tribute to the noblewomen who enlivened its halls, inspired by the Marchesa Anna Maria Malaspina, who lived in the 18th century and was admired for her refinement and wit.

The 29 rooms and suites come in blues and greens, with objets d’art, prints by noted photographers, art and design books and marble bathrooms. Double Deluxe rooms look over the entrance or the Tiber. Some Junior Suites face the pool, and a few have balconies or terraces. The Garden Suite has its own entrance and a small private garden, and the Dama Suite has a large terrace over the garden and a bathroom with a central bathtub.

The Daham Health and Beauty Spa covers 200 square metres, with a water path and whirlpool, a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, three treatment suites and a fitness space. Donkey’s Bar, the restaurant, is a contemporary trattoria for Roman and Lazio cooking, inspired by the Bib Gourmand trattoria Li Somari. Villa Borghese is 450 metres away on foot, along the Lungotevere and past Piazza del Popolo. Pets are welcome.
