Anantara Siam Bangkok completes a $50 million restoration of all 335 rooms

Anantara Siam Bangkok has completed a $50 million transformation covering all 335 guestrooms, suites and villas at the hotel, which first opened in 1983. The hotel describes the project as a landmark restoration built around the phrase 'Transformed. Timeless. Thai.'
Central to the work is the preservation of a 100 metre hand painted mural crowning the hotel lobby, created by Thai muralist Paiboon Suwannakudt to mark the 200th anniversary of the country's reigning dynasty. Nineteen ceiling panels above the lobby, titled 'Heavens in Thai Thought', have also been retained.
The hotel was designed by architect George Wimberley and has operated for more than four decades as a fixture of Bangkok hospitality. Anantara says the redesign was guided by respect for that Thai heritage, keeping treasured design elements at the centre of the guest experience rather than replacing them wholesale.
What changed inside the rooms
Every category has been remodelled, from the Deluxe Rooms through the Siam Suites and Anantara Suites to the Presidential Suite. Anantara describes interiors built around warm teak wood, handcrafted detailing and silk accents, paired with a residential colour palette meant to read as modern yet unmistakably Thai.
Bathrooms across the property have been redone with marble finishes, bespoke vanities, upgraded lighting and new fittings. New to the collection are the Anantara Garden Pool Suites and Villas, set within tropical gardens with private pools and combined indoor and outdoor living spaces in the centre of the city.
The most distinctive new addition is the Jim Thompson Explorer Suite, built through a partnership with the Thai silk brand founded by the American known as the country's 'Silk King'. The two bedroom suite has polished teak floors, painted panelled walls, an open plan living and dining area and a private library.
What else was rebuilt
Wellness facilities have been rebuilt in full. The Anantara Spa has been transformed entirely, and the hotel's Siam Sports Club now includes a Technogym equipped fitness centre, a Pilates studio, and an outdoor wellness area with a Muay Thai boxing ring, a rock climbing wall and a functional training zone.
The hotel's meetings and events facilities have also been redesigned, including the Grand Ballroom and its wider collection of meeting rooms and creative event spaces. Anantara says the update was made to meet the demands of today's global business and luxury events market, combining Thai design with newer technology.

What the hotel has not detailed is how the $50 million was split between the guestroom overhaul, the wellness rebuild and the events spaces, or whether the Jim Thompson partnership carries a fixed term. Those specifics remain the property's own to disclose as bookings for the reopened hotel begin.
