Pelan Pelan
Family-run Canggu surf and yoga retreat with yoga, meditation, Balinese massages, cooking classes, temple trips and riverside calm.
Pelan Pelan means “take it easy”, and the retreat appears to take the instruction seriously. Set near Canggu, the family-run surf and yoga stay combines movement, massage, Indonesian home cooking and enough green space to make Bali’s busier edges feel far away.
The rhythm: seven nights of accommodation, yoga sessions, meditation in a joglo-style shala, Balinese massage, a gua sha facial, a cooking class and a half-day trip to Taman Ayun, Sangeh and Tanah Lot. The geography is useful, too: close enough to Canggu for surf lessons and day trips, quiet enough for darker skies at night.
This is a good fit for travellers who want wellness without monastic severity. You can practise, swim, eat a home-cooked lunch, add a surf session, and still end the day with the feeling that the schedule has exhaled. Bali does plenty of performance wellness; Pelan Pelan is more persuasive when it simply slows down.
